Static Memories

Event currently rescheduling due to insufficient interest. Please disregard the schedule until this message has been removed.
An upcoming for-profit SFW zine about the Genshin Impact ship Tomo x Kazuha. Our interest check is currently open.

ABOUT

Static Memories is a for-profit zine, dedicated to the Genshin Impact ship of Tomo x Kazuha. It will be general-themed (canon-conformative with no alternative universes) and will be inclusive of both writers, artists and merchandise artists.

It is still undecided on whether it will be a physical or digital zine, but the outcome will be decided upon moderators' review of the interest check.

In accordance with MiHoYo's fan-merchandise policy, each item will be manufactured and/or distributed with a strict quantity limit of two-hundred (200) units (exclusive of free copies to be received by contributors and those purchased at production costs). In the circumstances that there is a large-scale difference between supply and demand, a commercial request may be made to MiHoYo, where appropriate. Otherwise, orders that have been made after the 200 cap-limit will be entitled to a full refund.

The current contributor amounts we will be seeking are as follows, but is subject to change after reviewing answers from the interest check.

Artists20Cover artist, page artists, full-spread/CG artists
Writers5Fanfiction with a word count of 1500 - 3000 (hard limit)

FAQ

In order, this FAQ covers the definition of a zine, selection criteria for moderator/contributor applicants, what will happen when applying for more than one contributor position, what occurs when an existing contributor cannot finish their piece/ needs to drop out, compensation and requirements that should be adhered to.

What is a zine?
A zine is an unofficial publication of fan-made content, created by fans for fans, and can either be for-profit or not-for-profit (free, or all proceeds will be donated to charity). Both artists and writers will be creating individual pieces, with the option of collaborating with another if they wish to do so.
In a non-exclusive, open zine, applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, whereas an exclusive, closed zine will be judging applicants, with only a selective few being accepted to become contributors.
Static Memories is an exclusive, closed zine.

How will applicants be judged?
Moderators will be assessed on their ability to communicate, and evaluate a variety of given scenarios to demonstrate their understanding of a zine's internal conflict and affairs, or they will be asked for a link to their portfolio (dependent on what role they're applying for). Previous event experience is not required, but preferred.Artists will be asked for a link to their portfolio, and be requested for a minimum of three (3) samples. Their artwork will be judged based on quality, aesthetics, skills, colours and proportions. An illustration of Tomo x Kazuha should be featured so that moderators can assess how you depict them in your style. The other samples do not have to be Genshin Impact-related, although preferred. Follower count will not be taken into consideration and all works provided must be a maximum of one (1) year old. Please note that selection criteria is subject to change, depending on the lead creator mod's decision.Writers will be asked for a link to their portfolio (oftentimes an Ao3 link or professional website), and be requested for three (3) samples (each between 1500 - 3000 words) as the mods wish to determine whether you are able to capture enough depth for a story, while adhering to a maximum word count. Furthermore, one of your pieces must be Tomo x Kazuha-related, so we can identify your characterisation of them. The other samples do not have to be Genshin Impact-related, although it is heavily preferred. Follower count will not be taken into consideration and all works provided must be a maximum of one (1) year old. Please note that selection criteria is subject to change, depending on the lead creator mod's decision.
Please ensure that the portfolio link(s) are accessible as you will not be contacted in the scenario it doesn't (with the special exception being that many wish for you to be a featured guest creator). Moderators that are applying for a zine position will be judged on the same basis as all other applicants by the Head Mod(s), and will not be receiving a free pass.

Can I apply for more than one contributor position?
Yes, you may. However, you may potentially only be granted one position, in order to allow equal access and opportunities for other applicants.

What happens if I can't finish my piece on time?
We understand that life happens, so please contact a mod as soon as possible if you believe there is a potential that you may be unable to complete your piece on time. During check-ins, contributors will be offered the opportunity to drop out.

How will contributors and moderators be compensated?
At the minimum, all moderators and contributors will be compensated by receiving a free copy of the zine. Under the circumstances that the zine is physical, moderators and contributors will be monetarily compensated after the deduction of manufacturing expenses, shipping/ packaging costs and so on. Furthermore, you will be allowed to purchase additional copies of the zine at production costs.
For those over 18, you will be compensated via Paypal (or any other pre-approved monetary platform of the contributor's choice) and shall receive a contributory flat rate, which will gradually increase depending on the amount of pieces you have created that have officially been used in the finished zine product, e.g. a full-spread page and merchandise artist will receive more compensation than an artist who has illustrated a single page. For those under 18, they will be unable to directly receive monetary compensation. The solutions we offer is that minors may nominate a guardian and/or charity to receive monetary compensation on their behalf. Please bear in mind that if you nominate a guardian, they must pledge to be over the age of 18. If moderators find out they have been deceived, your monetary compensation will be heavily penalised and you will be banned from future events that are held by the Tomo x Kazuha Event Hub.
Are there any requirements that I should adhere to?
As a moderator, you will be required to be over the age of 18. You should not encourage nor discourage the acceptance of applicants, based off your personal views. As a contributor, all works MUST be your own. An application to collaborate with another must be made beforehand (to the lead creator mod) if you wish to do so.All participants should have a working Discord account as that will be our primary means of communication once the creation period begins.

If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to send us an anonymous message via our Q&A box or by directly messaging our Twitter account (rather than a mod individually).
